Milton 9-10 All-Stars battle back to championship game

The Milton All-Stars battled back from the bottom losers' bracket to win games against the District 2 winners, Canal, and won the first rematch against a very good District 1 MOT team. They play MOT Monday, July 28, for the winner-take-all state championship banner.
Milton could only muster four hits in the July 25 loss to MOT. Brian Sponaugle slammed a triple and knocked in the lone run for the visiting Milton squad. Ty Husbands delivered two singles while Timmy Hitchcock hit one.
Ty Husbands struck out four in the loss.
"It was one of those games," said manager Zac Crouch.
Milton knocked District 2 Canal out of contention with a 12-3 win July 26.
Hunter Rauch went 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs, Ty Husbands went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Brian Sponaugle slammed a triple and scored two RBIs, Cole Carter knocked in one run via a double and Nick Cox added an RBI single. Luke Crouch and Timmy Hitchcock went 2-for-3 and 1-for-2, respectively.
Timmy Hitchcock and Nick Cox teamed for five strikeouts and the win in six innings.
In the first championship game matchup with MOT, Milton scored one in the first inning and followed with two in the third and fourth, never looking back, and finished the game off in the sixth with a double play.
"It's really exciting," said Crouch. "To bounce back against Canal and get into the championship round with MOT showed the hearts of our players."
Brian Sponaugle slammed a triple and double, scoring two runners, while Ty Husbands knocked in a run on a double. Nick Cox hit a double and had an RBI; Malikye Wells hit two singles, driving in a Milton runner, and Timmy Hitchcock drove in one. Cole Carter picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk.
Ty Husbands pitched 5 1/3 shutout innings for the win, putting nine batters in the book via the K. Nick Cox picked up the save.
"It's rewarding to see the team come to play and fight to get to the finish line," said Crouch.
